Dental Anxiety? Sedation Dentistry Can Help

Dental fear keeps millions of Americans from getting the care they need. Here’s how sedation dentistry works — and why it might be the solution you’ve been looking for.

Dental anxiety is more common than most people realize. Studies suggest that up to 20% of Americans avoid the dentist due to fear — and for many, that fear leads to serious oral health problems that could have been prevented.

At our Studio City practice, we take dental anxiety seriously. Sedation dentistry is one of the most effective tools we have for helping anxious patients get the care they need comfortably.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. Depending on your level of anxiety and the complexity of your treatment, we offer several options:

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. It produces a pleasant, relaxed feeling within minutes. The effects wear off quickly after the mask is removed, so you can drive yourself home. This is a great option for mild to moderate anxiety.

Oral Sedation

With oral sedation, you take a prescribed medication before your appointment. You’ll be awake but deeply relaxed — many patients have little or no memory of the procedure afterward. You’ll need someone to drive you home.

IV Sedation

For patients with severe anxiety or those undergoing extensive treatment, IV sedation provides a deeper level of relaxation. You’ll be monitored throughout the procedure by our trained team.
